Dr. Amjad Hameed

Prof. Dr. Amjad Hameed is serving as Deputy Chief Scientist at the Nuclear Institute for Agriculture and Biology (NIAB), Faisalabad, Pakistan, and as Professor at NIAB-C, PIEAS, Islamabad. With over 24 years of experience in molecular plant breeding and biochemistry, he leads the Marker Assisted Breeding Group in the Plant Breeding & Genetics Division at NIAB. He also has extensive management and leadership experience, including his role as Convener of Commercial Analytical Services at NIAB.
Dr. Hameed has authored more than 213 citable publications as peer-reviewed journal articles (162), books (04), book chapters (09), and conference proceedings/abstracts (35), with a cumulative impact factor exceeding 330. He is the author of four international books published by leading foreign publishers. He has successfully supervised over 102 postgraduate students, including 13 PhDs.
He has secured 18 competitive national and international research grants, amounting to more than PKR 120 million, as Principal Investigator (PI) or Co-PI from agencies such as PSF, PARB, NARC, PSDP, CIMMYT, and IAEA. According to the AD Scientific Index, he is ranked among the top 3% of scientists in Pakistan and the No. 1 scientist at NIAB, with over 6,807 citations, an H-index of 43, and an i10-index of 102.
He contributes as a subject expert and project evaluator for HEC, PSF, PARC, and PARB. He serves as Associate Editor for Frontiers in Plant Sciences, Frontiers in Plant Genetics, and Genes (MDPI), and as a Review Editor for more than 50 international journals. He has been a recipient of the Research Productivity Award from PCST, Government of Pakistan, on multiple occasions.
Since 2011, he has been the organizer and resource person for the annual Training Course on Biochemical and Molecular Techniques in Plant Breeding at NIAB, and since 2019, for the National Workshop on Scientific Writing at NIAB. He has contributed to the development of fourteen (18) crop varieties as an Associate Marker Assisted Breeder and contributing scientist.
In recognition of his outstanding scientific achievements, he was awarded the Performance Gold Medal by PAEC in 2013. Consistently ranked as the No. 1 scientist of NIAB for the past seven years, Dr. Hameed remains the only NIAB scientist listed among the top 3% of scientists in Pakistan as per the AD Scientific Index.
