Dr Mehboob-ur-Rahman has been experienced in understanding crop genomes, utilization of DNA markers for crop improvement, etc. Dr Rahman completed mega projects with the international collaborators (funded by USDA, NSF China, IAEA FAO, etc.)—explored cotton and wheat genetics and genomics for developing resilient crop varieties. Dr Rahman as a partner with Chinese collaborator re-sequenced 423 cotton varieties/lines developed in Pakistan and China. The information generated was published in various journals (two papers in Nature & one in Nature Genetics), and the total number of publications is exceeding 130 (including 27 chapters). He also edited two books on cotton. His total Impact Factor is ~338 with more than 9280 (google citation) & ~5200 (Web of science/Scopus). Using the genomic information, he developed 17 approved cotton and wheat varieties as Principal Breeder. The cotton variety, IR-NIBGE-3701 produced 49% more yield than control in national trials (2848 kg ha-1 versus 1901 kg/ha-1 for control). This variety covered ~30% of the total cotton area, and remained popular in Punjab till 2020. This variety is under cultivation in Sindh province. The second cotton variety, IR-NIBGE-1524, produced 2668 kg ha-1 versus 1901 kg ha-1 of control, has been under cultivation in Sindh over the last two decades. Third cotton variety, IR-FH-901 got popularity (covered up to 30% of the total area) in Sindh, and still is under cultivation. After the introduction of Bt-cotton, yield in Sindh was increased from 2.1 to ~4.00 million bales. Similarly, IR-NIBGE-11, cotton variety developed through introducing wild alleles from untapped genetic resource, outyielded the whole national trial by producing 3150 kg ha-1, approved for cultivation in 2021. Efforts for developing this variety was appreciated by the funding agency (USDA) by bestowing a letter of appreciation, and was showcased in the final meeting of C-PEP in 2021. He also developed wheat variety NN-Gandum-1 which remained under cultivation for five years in Punjab. Total benefit (at farm gate value) due to cultivation of NIBGE cotton varieties till 2023 was 9.893 million bales. Total advantage was 3960 million US$ or $3.9 billion. Dr Rahman also served as “Expert” by the FAO/IAEA Vienna for training scientists for using next-gen techniques for developing improved crop cultivars. He has also been nominated as “Eminent Cotton Scientist” in PCCC, member in Provincial Green Revolution Committee and member of board of directors of PSC. The International and National Agencies including Govt of Pakistan bestowed him with several recognitions including pride of performance-2012, ICAC Researcher of the year-2014, PAS Gold Medal in Agriculture, TWAS (under 40), etc.

I specialise in cognitive rehabilitation and cognitive stimulation therapy (CST), especially for older adults with mild cognitive impairment and dementia. I have developed and validated culturally adapted interventions such as the Cognitive Stimulation Therapy – Malaysia (CST-M) module, and have led training programs for therapists and caregivers to ensure consistent and evidence-based application. I have also integrated transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (tDCS) into my rehabilitation protocols as a non-invasive neurostimulation technique to support cognitive function and neuroplasticity in older populations. My involvement includes setup, parameter calibration, electrode placement, safety monitoring, and training postgraduate students and clinicians in its application. Throughout my career, I have developed, used, and trained others in a wide array of equipment, including but not limited to: Volumetric Incentive Spirometer (e.g., Voldyne 2500) for respiratory rehabilitation, EH Board for Visual-Motor Integration (which I invented and registered under MyIPO), Snoezelen multi-sensory room equipment for behavioural regulation, Fine motor skill development tools such as Dakon Therapy for ADHD children, Driving simulators and cognitive screening tools for older adults. I routinely maintain, troubleshoot, and upgrade rehabilitation devices in clinical and research settings to ensure they meet operational and safety standards. I also produce training manuals, technical guides, and standard operating procedures to facilitate consistent and safe usage across teams. As a senior academic and postgraduate supervisor, I have mentored numerous students in the implementation of equipment-based interventions, including the use of fNIRS (Functional Near-Infrared Spectroscopy) for cognitive workload assessment, sensory-based therapy tools, and psychometric validation of therapy equipment. My innovation efforts have been recognised with multiple national awards, including Gold and Diamond Awards at UiTM’s Invention, Innovation & Design Exposition (iidex), and several of my products have been granted intellectual property rights. In addition, I have developed Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) and conducted workshops on therapeutic equipment usage in occupational therapy practice, ensuring knowledge is transferred not only at the clinical level but also through structured educational programs. My goal is to continue developing effective, evidence-based tools and programs that empower healthcare professionals while improving outcomes for clients, especially older persons navigating cognitive and functional decline.

As a biomedical engineer by profession and currently serving as CEO of Revive Medical Technologies Inc. (RMT), as well as Professor and Head of the Biomedical Engineering Department at Riphah International University, Islamabad, I have spent over two decades advancing the landscape of medical technology in both industrial and academic sectors. After completing my Ph.D. and postdoctoral research at the University of Sheffield, UK, I returned to Pakistan with a mission to establish the country’s first indigenous medical device industry. With critical support from the Ministry of Science and Technology, I spearheaded the establishment of a pilot-scale production facility in 2007 under a federal government initiative, marking Pakistan’s entry into local cardiovascular device manufacturing. My core team and I underwent specialized training in Germany, gaining expertise in the production of cardiovascular stents and catheters. Later, I was honored with a formal mandate from the Prime Minister’s Office to lead the creation of Pakistan’s first state-owned medical device industry, which led to the founding of N-ovative Health Technologies (NHT)—an ISO 13485-certified and DRAP-licensed facility. As CEO of NHT and Founding Executive Director of the Medical Devices Development Centre (MDDC), a national Center of Excellence at NUST University, I successfully led the development and commercialization of four DRAP-approved cardiovascular products—Rejuvenate, VasoGlide, N-DEavour, and Tracker—priced at just a fraction of imported alternatives. During the COVID-19 pandemic, I directed the development of Pakistan’s first indigenous ventilators and respiratory devices, while also achieving the significant milestone of localizing the production of specialized manufacturing equipment previously imported from Germany and the U.S. In parallel, I have contributed substantially to academic innovation as the Founder of the Biomedical Engineering & Sciences Department at NUST, where I also established the Prosthetics and Implantology Lab and led numerous successful technology transfers to industry. I’ve been recognized nationally with prestigious awards including the Presidential Award, National Development Award, Pakistan Engineering Council’s Excellence Award, and COMSTECH’s Distinguished Scholar Award for my contributions to research, innovation, and capacity building across OIC member countries. In 2023, I co-founded Revive Medical Technologies Inc. (USA) to bridge global gaps in medical device development by offering complete, end-to-end solutions. My technical expertise spans the installation, troubleshooting, and training on a wide range of specialized equipment including HPLC machines, UV spectrophotometers, Leica microscopes, stability chambers, drying ovens, centrifuges, and ultrasonicator units, all of which are essential for product testing and validation. I’ve also led the operation and training on production-grade devices like the Stent Drug Coating Machine (SDCM) and Electropolishing Machine (EPM), and advanced prototyping tools such as Creality K1 Max, Demo K1 Carbon, Artillery SW-X4 Pro, Carvera CNC, and Voltera PCB printers. I’ve authored technical manuals, developed training modules, and mentored engineers, researchers, and technicians both in academic institutions and production facilities. With 27 patents, over 50 international publications, and more than 30 device prototypes, I remain deeply committed to transforming healthcare innovation into practical, life-saving technologies.
