Dr. Tanveer Ul Haq is an expert in the field of saline agriculture at MNS University of Agriculture, Multan - Pakistan. He received his PhD from the University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, and the Centre for Arid Zone Studies, Bangor University, Wales, UK. He mapped major QTLs and identified Markers involved in the accumulation and regulation of Na on Chromosome-1, between 12 – 14 Mbp region in a rice population developed from japonica and indica varieties. He did many projects including evaluating the advancements in saline agriculture technology under changing climate; Adapting to salinity in the Southern Indus Basin (ACIAR-funded research); and improving chickpea production on sandy soils using biochar developed from cotton sticks. As a postdoc at the UWA, Australia he did markers-assisted selection of tall wheatgrass introgressions in western Australian wheat varieties for enhanced Na+ exclusion to improve salinity tolerance. He is the recipient of the Endeavour Research Fellowship Award 2016. He is also the Higher Education Commission’s approved supervisor for PhD studies in Pakistan. More recently one of his students characterized indigenous cotton germplasm for potassium uptake and explored its role in cotton drought tolerance, which led to the completion of his PhD degree and the publication of five articles in reputable journals. He has authored more than 50 articles in peer-reviewed world-class journals. He has strong linkages with the farming community and the agricultural industry in the Multan region.
My area of expertise is soil salinity management and plant stress physiology. I have experience to run various machines, including Atomic absorption Spectrophotmeter, Flame photomers, HPLC and GC MS.
