About

I am a Professor of Computer Science (AI) and an IEEE Senior Member with 16 years of experience in research, teaching, and academic leadership. My main work is in artificial intelligence, especially for cybersecurity, healthcare, and smart energy. I build practical AI systems and train others to use them.
In cybersecurity, I work on intrusion detection, zero-day attack detection, and ranking software vulnerabilities by risk. I use explainable AI so that results can be understood and trusted. I also study lightweight post-quantum security for IoT devices such as medical sensors and smart grids.
In healthcare, I develop models that read EEG, heart rate, and PPG signals to detect emotion, stress, and emergencies. In smart energy, I build forecasting and control models for microgrids and industrial energy use. I also design small, low-power AI models (TinyML) that run directly on embedded devices, for tasks like waste classification and environmental monitoring.
My second area of strength is RF and microwave engineering. My PhD at Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS focused on microwave filter design. I have designed filters, multiplexers, and antennas, including antennas for wearable and medical use, using HFSS, CST, and ADS. This hardware background helps me build AI that works well on real devices, not just in simulation. My work has led to patents and patent filings, including Malaysian Patent MY-178842-A.
I am a certified OBE Master Trainer and a PEC Programme Evaluator. I have supervised 8 PhD theses, 24 MS theses, and 18 capstone projects, many with industry support. As Head of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Riphah International University, I led five academic programmes, launched two new degrees, and guided the department to PEC accreditation. I am now working to establish a Center of Excellence in AI at the University of Management and Technology.
My research record includes more than 50 peer-reviewed publications, an IET book on AI and post-quantum security (2026), and four book chapters with Elsevier, IET, and CRC Press.
I can support OIC member states by advising on AI projects, helping set up AI and embedded-systems labs, running hands-on training workshops, and collaborating on research in AI, cybersecurity, and digital health.
